Nicolas Rombouts is a versatile Belgian musician, composer, performer, producer, engineer, studio and label owner, with his main instrument being the double bass. He is known for his innovative approach to music, constantly seeking new ways to push boundaries and combine different genres and styles.
As a self-described "bricoleur" of sounds, Nicolas is passionate about transforming sounds into a musical universe. In addition to being an active musician, performer, and composer, he runs a small yet well-equipped studio called Studio Caporal, which features top vintage and new gear.
Nicolas also runs a non-profit music label called Mokuhi Sonorities, which serves as a platform for like-minded artists to share their stories through adventurous music. On this website, you can find more information about Nicolas, his various projects, and his philosophy on music.

In addition to his music pursuits, Nicolas has also explored the influence of dance movements on music and vice versa, both through collaboration with other dancers and through his own experimentation. He has been conducting research on this subject with cellist Simon Lenski for several years.
As a much sought-after bass player and composer, Nicolas has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including Stanton, Jim White (US), Guido Belcanto, Isbells, Needcompany, Peter Verhelst, Koen Kohlbacher, Ward/waRD dance company, writer Max Porter (UK), Rustin Man (UK), Matt Watts (US), and more.
Nicolas Rombouts, born in 1977, initially studied Medieval History at Leuven University before pursuing his passion for music. He attended the Lemmens Institute and the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, where he studied jazz and experimental music, with the double bass as his main instrument.
He has been involved in many instrumental jazz and experimental noise bands in the European free music scene, collaborating with acclaimed artists like Paul Hubweber, Peter Kowald, and Peter Jacquemyn.
In 2003, Nicolas co-founded Dez Mona with singer Gregory Frateur, and became known for his music compositions for the band, receiving high praise from national and international press. However, he left the band in 2016 to focus on other musical projects, including his own studio, Caporal.
